SEXUAL HARASSMENT & ANTI-
DISCRIMINATION POLICY

Applicable to all staff, instructors, guests, students, partners, and visitors

1. POLICY STATEMENT

Surf Lisbon – House & School is committed to providing a safe, respectful, inclusive, and professional environment for everyone. All employees, instructors, guests, and students are entitled to an environment free from sexual harassment, discrimination, intimidation, and abuse of any kind.

Sexual harassment or any form of harassment will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

2. DEFINITION OF SEXUAL HARASSMENT

Sexual harassment is defined as any unwanted sexual attention, behaviour, or conduct that has the purpose or effect of being offensive, intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating, or disturbing.

Sexual harassment may occur regardless of gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, or position, and may involve staff, guests, students, or third parties.

3. PROHIBITED CONDUCT

The following behaviours are strictly prohibited at Surf Lisbon, including but not limited to:

● Sexual remarks, comments, or jokes about a person’s body, appearance, or private life;
● Simulating sexual movements or gestures;
● Stroking, touching, holding, pinching, grabbing, patting, or intentionally brushing against another person;
● Sexual assault, attempted assault, or rape;
● Showing, displaying, or sharing images, videos, cartoons, or materials of a sexual nature;
● Using sexually offensive language or telling sexual jokes;
● Demanding or implying sexual favours in exchange for services, employment benefits, preferential treatment, or scheduling;
● Creating an intimidating, hostile, humiliating, or offensive environment;
● Providing preferential or discriminatory treatment based on gender, ethnicity, religion, belief, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression;
● Creating or altering work schedules or access to services based on protected characteristics;
● Leering, blocking movement, or physically following guests, students, or staff;
● Observing individuals without consent while showering, changing, or sunbathing;
● Stalking, including repeated or persistent unwanted communication or approaches that cause fear or discomfort;
● Making harassing phone calls, messages, emails, or social media contact of a sexual or offensive nature;
● Posting, sending, uploading, or downloading sexual, degrading, or offensive material via electronic means;
● Any other form of unwanted physical or verbal conduct of a sexual nature.

4. ZERO TOLERANCE & PROTECTED CHARACTERISTICS

All individuals must be treated with dignity, fairness, and respect at all times.

The following behaviours are strictly prohibited at Surf Lisbon, including but not limited to:

● Gender or sex;
● Sexual orientation;
● Gender identity or gender expression;
● Ethnicity or nationality;
● Religion or belief;
● Disability;
● Age.

5. REPORTING & CONFIDENTIALITY

Any person who experiences or witnesses sexual harassment or inappropriate behaviour is encouraged to report it immediately to Surf Lisbon management.

All reports will be taken seriously, handled confidentially as far as possible, investigated promptly and fairly, and managed without retaliation against the reporting individual.

6. CONSEQUENCES & DISCIPLINARY ACTION

Any individual found to have violated this policy may face disciplinary action depending on the severity of the incident, including but not limited to:

● Verbal warning;
● Written warning;
● Immediate eviction from Surf Lisbon facilities or activities;
● Blacklisting from future Surf Lisbon services or programs;
● Removal of responsibilities or transfer of duties;
● Termination of employment with or without notice.

If the behaviour constitutes a violation of local or national law, Surf Lisbon will report the matter to the appropriate authorities.

7. LEGAL FRAMEWORK

This policy is governed by and interpreted in accordance with the laws of Portugal.

8. COMMITMENT

By participating in any Surf Lisbon activity, staying at the Surf House, or working with Surf Lisbon, all individuals agree to respect and comply with this policy.
