During our trip, we stay in a beautiful oceanfront hotel perched above the beach, where you can wake up to the sound of the waves and check the surf directly from your room. From there, it’s just a short walk down to the beach to start the day with an early surf session in warm tropical water — no wetsuit needed.
The waves around Pipa are known for being fun, long, and very user-friendly, making them ideal for intermediate surfers and motivated beginners looking to improve their confidence and wave count. It’s also common to share the lineup with dolphins and sea turtles, one of the magical experiences that make surfing in Pipa so special.
One of the highlights of the trip is a day trip to a nearby point break — a not-so-secret spot that produces long, playful rides of 200 to 400 meters, offering some of the longest and most enjoyable waves in the region.
Beyond surfing, Pipa is a lively tropical village full of charm. After a day in the water, you can enjoy great Brazilian food, sunset drinks overlooking the ocean, and a relaxed but vibrant nightlife. The village is known for its welcoming atmosphere, safety, and easygoing lifestyle that perfectly complements the surf experience.
We also collaborate with a trusted local surf school that has been our partner since 2010, helping us organize logistics, transport, and making sure we always surf the best spots depending on the conditions.
Pipa is more than a surf trip — it’s a true surf travel experience where great waves, nature, and Brazilian culture come together.

Our base for the trip is Cabo Ledo, home to one of the longest and most consistent point breaks in Africa. Here, long left-hand waves peel down the bay for hundreds of meteres with incredible views of the surrounding cliffs and coastline. Even on good swell days, the lineup often remains uncrowded — a rare luxury for surfers today.
During the trip we stay at a beautiful all-inclusive beachfront resort, run by our trusted local partner. We have worked with this team for a few years and their professionalism, hospitality and local knowledge ensure that every aspect of the trip is organised with comfort, quality and complete safety in mind.
One of the great advantages of Angola is how accessible it is from Europe. There are direct flights from Lisbon, no time difference, and therefore no jet lag, making it an easy yet adventurous surf destination for European surfers.
While Cabo Ledo already delivers fantastic waves really close to the hotel, there is also the possibility of exploring additional surf spots further south along the coastline — areas that remain largely untouched and rarely surfed. These excursions offer the chance to discover empty waves along a raw and beautiful African coastline.
Beyond surfing, Angola also offers a unique cultural experience. Guests can add an optional safari trip to Quissama National Park, where it is possible to see wildlife, making this journey far more than just a surf trip.
Angola is not only about waves — it is about adventure, nature, and discovering a destination that still feels authentic and unexplored.

Our trips to Lost Shore are designed as short surf escapes between March and September, when the weather in Scotland is more pleasant and the city is at its most vibrant. The resort offers comfortable accommodation right next to the wave pool, allowing guests to fully enjoy the surf sessions and relax between surfs. Another major advantage is how easy the destination is to reach. There are direct flights from Lisbon, the same time zone, and the resort is located right next to the airport and only 20 minutes from Edinburgh’s city centre.
Beyond the surfing, Edinburgh is a destination worth exploring. Known for its stunning architecture, historic streets, castles, and vibrant food scene, it offers the perfect balance between surf sessions and city discovery.
Why surf a wave pool?
Wave pools offer something the ocean cannot always guarantee: perfect, consistent waves every session. With predictable waves and a high wave count, surfers can practice more, improve faster, and build confidence in a controlled environment. Combined with video analysis and feedback, it’s one of the most efficient and fun ways to progress in surfing — for both beginners and experienced surfers.

Surfing the Maldives by boat is a unique experience. Waking up surrounded by turquoise lagoons, moving between islands in search of the best swell and wind conditions, and surfing perfect reef breaks in crystal-clear water are memories that stay with you for life.
Over the years, however, the most accessible surf regions of the Maldives have become increasingly crowded. The growth of guesthouses, hostels, and surf tourism infrastructure on several islands has made many of the classic spots far busier than they once were.
Because of this, we decided to pause our Maldives trips after 2013. At Surf Lisbon we always aim to provide quality surf experiences with space in the lineup, and at that time the Maldives were changing rapidly.
That said, the Maldives remain one of the world’s most incredible surf destinations. We hope to return in the future — focusing on the Central or Southern Atolls, where there is still far more space to explore and where surfers can enjoy a more exclusive experience with waves suited for different levels.
The story of Surf Lisbon in the Maldives may be paused for now… but it is certainly not finished.

Surrounded by dramatic cliffs, lush green landscapes, and the sound of waterfalls flowing from the mountains to the ocean, the retreat offered the perfect balance between adventure and deep relaxation.
The surf in this part of the island offers long waves breaking both left and right, with incredibly clear water and surprisingly comfortable temperatures. Thanks to the island’s location in the Atlantic, the waves are consistent while still maintaining a relaxed and uncrowded atmosphere.
Beyond surfing, the environment itself becomes part of the experience. Guests can enjoy hiking trails along the cliffs, hidden waterfalls, and the silence of a place where nature still sets the rhythm of daily life. It is the kind of destination where time slows down and every moment feels connected to the ocean and the landscape around it.
Another advantage is how easy it is to reach. The Azores are just a 2 hour 30 minute flight from Lisbon, making this remote paradise surprisingly accessible for a surf escape.
These retreats quickly became some of the most memorable trips we have organized, bringing together a small international group of surfers and travellers looking for waves, nature, and meaningful connection.
We are already looking forward to returning to the Azores soon.
